Is anyone here?
I feel that, yes, the politicians are corrupt. Corrupted with power. But it is the system which has given them the power to go ahead unchallenged. And, in particular, it is the way in which Congressional Districts are organized which perpetuates their power.
With a little searching you can find maps of the congressional districts in the U.S. Take a look at these and tell me that Gerrymandering is not rampant.
There is one district in N.C. which goes to sea and comes back, then goes out to sea again and comes back. This is insane!!!
Constitutionally the districts should be drawn around population, but they are drawn around demographics. VOTING demographics. Thus very few seats in the House are actually contested. A sitting congressman has to die to give up his/her seat.
We have a census coming in about 13 months. After the census each state redistricts. Please get involved somehow with your state. There has to be hearings around the redistricting. Get to these if you can and voice your opinion.
Disrticts should be based on population, not voting demographics. Districts should be as square or rectangular as possible. They should not look like 95% of our districts look like now.
My contention is that if districts were based on population and not demographics the representatives would have to represent us and be concerned that if they did not then they might be voted out of office.
